Vegan sweets are made without any animal-derived ingredients such as eggs, dairy, honey or gelatin — plant oils instead of butter, plant milk instead of milk.
At L for You, all our baked goods are vegan. We also don’t use wheat flour or refined cane sugar, and we don’t use food additives as a rule. Sugar and wine can be processed with animal-derived aids; the wine we use is vegan-certified. If you want to check how the sugar is processed, please contact us.
“Vegan” can mean different things at different shops
Usually, sweets without eggs and butter are called vegan. For people who choose strictly, differences appear beyond that.
Sugar and wine: steps that are easy to miss
Sugar itself comes from plants, but animal-derived aids (such as bone char) may be used in refining, which is why some vegans avoid it. Gelatin or egg white may also be used to clarify wine. These don’t appear on the label, so you need to ask the maker. We choose vegan-certified wine; for sugar, please contact us if you want to check the process.
Plant-based is not the same as vegan
“Plant-based” means mainly plants and may include small amounts of animal products. “Vegan” means none, so it is the narrower word.
Gluten-free is a separate question
Many vegan sweets still use wheat flour. Avoiding animal products and avoiding wheat are separate things. L for You sweets are both gluten-free and vegan. Looking for a gift? See sweets as a gift.
